CHERI-FEST is here again – 3 Days of Music and Family Fun Next Weekend at The Cherington

Cheri-festivities at our lovely local, The Cherington, from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd August with proceeds going towards Cotswold Friends

Join Helen and the team for a great weekend of music and fun at The Cherington from this Friday.

The timetable includes:

Friday 21st from 7.00: Free music from the charismatic Pete Watkins (See poster below)

Saturday 22nd: 12.00 – 4.00: Family fun in the garden with games and a bouncy castle
5.30: Tug of War over the river – expect to get wet!

Sunday 23rd: Chilled out music from our talented locals locals in the garden
6.30 Quiz – booking essential £2 pp

There will be also be a raffle with lots of great prizes.

Proceeds will be going to this year’s local charity Cotswold Friends who are based in Moreton-in-Marsh and support vulnerable and older people in the community.

Repairs and Restoration at St John the Baptist, Cherington

Our lovely church, St John the Baptist in Cherington needs some TLC…

See report below on the ‘Quinquennial’ from Roger Maycock of the PCC:

‘Certain repair and restoration work needs to take place on the structure of our village church.  As custodians of this ancient building, the PCC have had a thorough survey (commonly known as a Quinquennial) undertaken by an approved professional.

The result of which is that we will need to commence a programme of works which is estimated could cost in the region of £60,000 (at current rates).  This can be scheduled over a staged period to fit with the degree of urgency of the various facets of work.  The biggest single item is the restoration of the Nave window which is estimated to cost £12,000.

Our aim is that the church will remain open for the majority of the time, and certainly for the services that normally take place.’

Cherington and Stourton Show 2026 – What a Fabulous Day!

A reflection on a wonderful day from from the Show organisers :

‘As the sun sets on another Cherington & Stourton Show, we just wanted to say… thank you. 💚

Today was everything a village show should be. Sunshine, laughter, fantastic music, incredible displays, happy families, and a real sense of community. It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to celebrate what makes our village so special.

Events like this don’t just happen. They are made possible by an amazing team of volunteers, supporters, exhibitors, sponsors, entertainers, and every single person who came through the gate today. Your support means more than you know.

In a world that often feels so busy, today was a reminder of how important community really is. Seeing generations of families making memories together, friends catching up, children laughing, and everyone enjoying the day made all the hard work worthwhile.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making the 2026 Cherington & Stourton Show so special. We hope you leave with wonderful memories, and we look forward to welcoming you back next year. ❤️‘

Help Needed for Show Setup: Free Drink included!

Can you help to set up our brilliant Show on Thursday and Friday evenings 30th/31st July from 6.00?

We will meet at The Hall and Playing Field at 6pm each evening with a free drink at the pub afterwards!

If you can spare some time on these evenings it will be much appreciated.

(Clearing Up after the Show starts at 10am on Sunday morning).

‘Fill the Holes’ Effort Tonight at The Hall – Cancelled

Unfortunately the work on filling the holes at the show site at the Hall this evening (Thursday 23rd July) has had to be cancelled.

Please keep an eye out for information re resumption of this task.

On-line survey for the new Housing and Homelessness Strategy for Warwick & Stratford-on-Avon Districts available for comment

An on-line survey has opened for anyone wishing to comment on the emerging joint Housing and Homelessness Strategy for Warwick and Stratford-on-Avon District Councils.

The strategy will set out the vision and priorities for housing across South Warwickshire and is looking at the homes and neighbourhoods people live in and the support they might need to find, keep, or move to a suitable home. It will also look at the different types of homes and landlords that are needed. 

The five main areas that both Councils think the strategy should focus on are: 

  • To deliver a diverse supply of housing to meet local needs
  • Prevention of homelessness and reduction in rough sleeping
  • That homes are safe and meet the decent homes standard
  • Homes are warm and energy efficient
  • To provide exemplary housing and landlord services

Bring Spade – Fill Holes: Tomorrow Thursday 23rd July from 5.30

After recent groundworks the Show site at The Hall needs a bit of TLC to get it up to standard for our brilliant Show on August 1st.

If you can spare some time on the evening of Thursday 23rd to help it would be greatly appreciated.

Spades and wheelbarrows would be useful…

The emergency services will be informed, and the contractor will notify residents and businesses directly affected by the closure.

An alternative route will be signed.

Vehicular access & egress will be maintained where possible.
