A big message of thanks from the Cherington and Stourton Show Committee
‘To all the villagers who have supported the show this year, we couldn’t do it without you all.
We are absolutely thrilled to have had such a successful show, the sunshine certainly helped.
Special thanks to Jon Pym and Philip Townsend for use of their fields for parking.
We would love to hear any feedback you may have; we took a gamble changing venues and learnt a lot (some changes for next year). We would love your thoughts.
Didn’t quite make it to Wimbledon or the Olympics? Haven’t played for years? Why not enjoy a morning’s tennis followed by a sociable lunch?
Why not come and play in the Village Tennis Tournament on Sunday 1st September? All standards are welcome. As long as you live, or have lived, in Cherington, Stourton or Sutton you are qualified to play.
We play tennis in the morning at various courts around the villages. Then watch (or play in) the finals and enjoy a potluck lunch at Brook House, Cherington.
If you would like to play or want more information, please contact Sally Clubley on sallyclubley@gmail.com or 07989 330729 by Monday 25 August.
Cherington and Stourton Show needs your help to set up at The Hall and Playing Field during the evening on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd August at 6pm – there’s a pint in it if you’re interested!
Help will also be required to clear up on Sunday morning from 10am.
Proposed Riverside Picnic on Sunday September 8th 2024 from 12.00 – 15.00
A fun and informative event for families with children aged 12 and under, on the banks of the river Stour at Tachbrook House. There will be a quiz and a wildlife talk from Michael Dean, who is an ecologist, specialist in water voles and otters and director of MD Ecology.
Please register your interest as per message below if you would like to come along:
Message from Susan Williams:
We do hope this will be well supported by families from Cherington, Stourton, and Sutton under Brailes, but we need to have names and phone numbers of those who would like to attend.
So with this in mind, please contact Sue Williams 01608 686414 or Sue Rodger 07796 036813 to register your interest as soon as possible.
A message from Jack McEntee, Director of the Happy Wolf Company:
‘Dear lovely customers,
It has now been almost two months since we opened the Cherington, would you believe it.
First & foremost, we want to thank you for your fantastic support in the last few weeks as we try to get this wonderful pub buzzing again. I felt it important to update you on how it’s been going and what our plans are going forward.
The last 2 months have proven testing when it comes to staff, namely kitchen staff. Michael, our head chef, is a supreme talent but it has taken time to get the rest of the team trained up, which is why you haven’t seen any menu changes since we opened. We are also actively searching for a sous chef to support him and when this happens, we can look at improving our offering, with more specials, midweek themed nights, opening for food 7 days per week, perhaps breakfast and plenty more – we have simply started slow so there is plenty of room to build. We are very lucky to have the chef team that we have and the boys are working tirelessly to serve you delicious dishes!
We have been hearing some opinions which we are planning to address. Our Mid-Summer menu launches on Saturday 20th July and we have taken your opinions on board, with a lighter, more ’Summery’ menu on the way. We are also offering for children 12 and under to eat for £1 during the Summer holidays, during midweek days.
A word for Mat, our landlord, alongside his wonderful team. The front of house team are really enjoying looking after you all and I hope you agree that Mat is really settling into his role and leading the team to success.
Finally, we are excited to unveil ‘CherryFest’! Taking place over the weekend of 23rd-25th August, we will be hosting an event for families and friends to enjoy live music, outdoor food, market stalls, a quiz, a raffle & perhaps even a Tug-of-War! We’d love your support and if anybody wants a market stall, please do get in touch.
It really has been a pleasure looking after your pub so far. We will continue to move forward, these things are often best done slowly so we can ensure we get every detail right and ensure we are here for years to come.
