Safari Supper 2024 – what a night!

Great Night had by all at 2024 Safari Supper

It was the perfect evening with warm sunshine and fragrant summer air for the return of the popular Safari Supper.

46 villagers came to together to enjoy a sociable evening sharing starter and main course meals at various hosts’ houses. The pudding course at our lovely local pub, The Cherington, capped off a really excellent evening.

Thanks so much to everyone who came along to make this such a successful event. Particular thanks go to the hosts and the pudding providers. We couldn’t have done it without you.

We learnt recently that this is the 25th anniversary of the first safari supper which was held in May 1999. We’d like to take credit for this being the silver anniversary but it’s just good luck!

The best news is that we made £754 for the Hall which is a great effort.

Thanks again …. And hopefully see you all again next year!

Oxford University Ecology Professor Setting Up Moth Traps in the Village

Visit by Professor Owen Lewis on Friday 7th June / Saturday 8th

On the evening of Friday 7 June, Owen Lewis, Professor of Ecology at Oxford University, is coming to the village to set up moth traps in 4 chosen gardens belonging to members of the Wildlife Group.

Then on the morning of Saturday 8th June he will return to The Hall between 10.30 and 11.00 am. and proceed to open the traps and talk about what is found.

This event coincides with the village Coffee Shop so a great opportunity to find out about how our local moth population is faring over cake and coffee!

There’s still time to join Safari Supper on Saturday 1st June

Last ‘Shout Out’ for anyone still thinking of coming along to this sociable village event!

The village Safari Supper returns on Saturday June 1st at 7pm and is a great way to meet new neighbours or catch up with those you already know – indeed 40 people have already signed up!

We have sufficient hosts so all you need to do is turn up at Jacques Barn, Stourton at 7pm where an aperitif will get you in the mood for the rest of evening! You will then be told where you are going for your starter.

Starter hosts are given the list of where their guests are going for their main course. You will be with entirely different people.

….And finally we all meet up at our wonderful recently re-opened local, The Cherington, for pudding and more chat.

NB Guests are requested to bring their own wine.

It’s excellent value at £20 per head and the money we raise helps to fund our our fabulous Hall and Playing Field.

Please contact Sally sallyclubley@gmail.com or Sue sueeileenmaaz@gmail.com by May 28th stating any dietary requirements.

Safari Supper Saturday 1st June – Reminder

There is still time to book up for the Cherington and Stourton Safari Supper!

The village Safari Supper returns on Saturday June 1st at 7pm and is a great way to meet new neighbours or catch up with those you already know.

If you would like to volunteer to host either a starter or main course for between 4 to 6 guests, or donate a pudding that would be great. But it is perfectly ok if you would just like to come along and join in the fun. Please let us know by replying to one of the email addresses below also stating any dietary requirements. For hosts, remember it’s about the people not the cooking – a simple meal is all that’s required and main course hosts get one free ticket

The evening will kick off at 7pm, at Jacques Barn, Stourton with an aperitif to get you in the mood! You will then be told where you are going for your starter.

Starter hosts are given the list of where their guests are going for their main course. You will be with entirely different people.

It’s excellent value at £20 per head and the money we raise helps to fund our our fabulous Hall and Playing Field.

Please contact Sally sallyclubley@gmail.com or Sue sueeileenmaaz@gmail.com by May 18th to register your interest, stating whether you are offering to host a starter or main course, supplying a pudding or just participating, and any dietary requirements.

‘The Cherington’ Opens in May!

A Message to the village from Jack McEntee Director of Happy Wolf Company

‘It is with great pleasure that I am writing to our lovely locals for the first time and I hope to meet you all in person very soon!

Happy Wolf Pub Company will be opening our biggest project yet on the 17th May!

After opening The Yew Tree in Avon Dassett & The Peacock in Oxhill, we have fallen in love with ’The Cherington’ and we can’t wait to show you what has been achieved with the enormous help and support of Martin and many, many others.

We hope you love all of our changes and come and support us as we take on Spring/Summer 2024 and beyond.

We will be opening up on the evening of the 10th May, from 6pm, as a special, one-off ‘open evening’, where there will be welcome bubbles, complementary nibbles from our new chefs and most importantly, a chance to look around at your new pub and meet our brand new management team, including our new manager Mathew and our head chef Michael, both who come with fantastic pedigree.

The bar will be open and we can’t wait to show you around before we then open for good on the 17th.

I can’t wait to meet you all and we look forward to, with your help, taking the Cherington into its best era yet.

See you all very soon’.

Jack McEntee, Director, Happy Wolf Pub Company.
