Happy Wolf Pubs are turning FIVE and celebrating on Friday 5th September from 6 – 11pm
Since taking on The Yew Tree in Avon Dassett in mid lockdown, the Happy Wolf Pub Company has gone on to acquire The Peacock at Oxhill in 2022 and finally, and fortuitously for us locals, The Cherington in 2024.
On Friday 5th September there will be celebrations at all 3 sites with nibbles, fizz and live music from 6-11pm – wear your gladrags!
A cool, dry morning gave ideal conditions for the start of this year’s tournament. After a morning of hard-fought tennis around the three villages, everyone congregated at Brook House to watch Liz Maycock and Alan Moug defeat Jax Jarvis and Alex Poignant in the final.
The players and friends and family then enjoyed a delicious potluck lunch, with an unplanned but very tasty Mediterranean theme.
We were particularly pleased to welcome five new faces to the tournament, including finalist Alex. Other newcomers included two players who have recently dusted off their rackets after a lay-off of more than two decades.
Several spectators want to be part of next year’s tournament and some have already started practising.
Thank you to everyone who took part, lent a court, helped organise and set up. And to Jonathan and Nicole Stolerman for hosting the lunch and George Monk for the photograph of the winners.

This year’s Cherington and Stourton Show was one of the best ever!
See message of thanks below from Lois Dudfield, co-chair of the Cherington and Stourton Show Committee:
‘We would like to thank each & everyone one of you who attended, members of the public, setting up & breaking down helpers, poster & flyer deliverers, stall holders, class entrants & most of all The Cherington & Stourton Show team, without this fabulous group of people the show would simply not take place, the effort that goes on behind the scenes each year is incredible.
Please do keep an ear out for our AGM date, as your feedback is crucial & we also love to hear what you think.
For now, thank you again, until next year – Over & Out’.
