The contiguous villages of Cherington and Stourton lie alongside the Upper Stour about 5k south east of Shipston Upon Stour in Warwickshire, and on the northern edge of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The valley is dominated by Brailes Hill to the north, along with Cherington and Green Hills, with Margetts Hill and Stourton Hills to the south.
Many houses are in the attractive local limestone which came from quarries on Margett’s Hill. A few date from the 16th and 17th centuries, a larger number from the early 1700s. This probably stems from the fact that Cherington was devastated by fire on 27 April 1716.
